Taryn Packheiser puts her body of interdisciplinary work under the auspices of her production company The Packtory. Her choreography combines contemporary dance, performance art, dance for the camera, and sound collages. She does not own any pets nor a fancy car. She does like the cartoon Jane and the Dragon and aweful music used in reality television.

About the Work

"Through the Cartesian chasm comes performance artist/choreographer Taryn Packheiser, a rare and welcomed blend of technical virtuoso and clever intellectual. Quirky and inventive, her work is a hopscotch of mesmerizing physical challenges and sharp wit that begs us to re-examine the union of body and brain. And unlike many fusion artists (Packheiser's diverse movement background ranges from hip hop to classical ballet), she slaloms through a multiplicity of idioms with unusual ease. The synthesis of Packheiser's proclivity towards performance art and her technical dance training make her work both difficult to categorize and even more impossible to stop watching."

About the Artist

"Taryn is inventive and uses her sense of humor and knowledge of art history, dance history, art philosophy and theory, film, and pop culture to create original pieces that are well crafted and relevant. She fuses movement styles ranging from classical modern dance forms to contemporary dance trends and pedestrian movement to make quirky, interesting new movements. "

Reviews from the IFF 2007 Website:

"You must see this show! Talk about a wild ride…dance, music, video…it has it all. Don’t expect a simple story told in a linear manner. Expect chaos and embrace it! Both are incredibly talented dancers with great stage presence. It had me chanting “George Gina, George Gina!” as I left the venue. (you’ll have to see it to understand!)"

I agree with “dre.” Taryn and Will are amazing dancers who demonstrate great skill in a wide range of styles from classical to jazz to clowning. This piece is classically “fringe” with lots of odd and interesting stuff, no single story line, but a complete effect, with wonderful original video, great music and, as mentioned, audience participation, that should be high on your list!
